Ford Europe debuted the facelifted Kuga at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2016. In December 2016 Ford South Africa asked all local Kuga owners to take their vehicles for a safety inspection, and a Kuga Titanium 2013 burst into flames in New Zealand in December 2016, as reported by Television New Zealand. The facelift kept the C520 platform and the One Ford design. The patents from January 2011 list its designers as working for Ford in Germany.
