From 2015 onwards numerous Ford Kugas of the 1.6 liter EcoBoost variant caught fire in South Africa, and between November 2015 and December 2017 seventy two vehicles suffered fires. The second generation Kuga was by now sold in Europe with petrol engines including a 2.0 liter EcoBoost with 242 horsepower in all wheel drive models, and diesel engines ranging from 140 to 180 horsepower. Both front wheel and four wheel drive were offered across the range.
