For the 2020 model year the Ford GT received an update with several mechanical upgrades, raising the engine to 660 horsepower with gallery cooled pistons and stronger ignition coils, and new special editions including the Liquid Carbon with an exposed carbon fibre body at 750,000 dollars. The Ford GT was a mid engine two seat sports car, styled in the spirit of the GT40 racing car of the 1960s. Ford sold it in small numbers to collectors, and it was built by specialist firms under contract rather than at Ford's own assembly plants.
