The first generation grew out of a GT40 concept shown at the 2002 Detroit show and was built for the 2005 and 2006 model years, with a supercharged 5.4 litre V8, an aluminum and superplastic formed structure and styling like the original GT40, though bigger and taller. Production ended in September 2006 short of its planned target. Its model years run from 2005 to 2006. The Ford GT was a mid engine two seat sports car, styled in the spirit of the GT40 racing car of the 1960s.
