Production of the Ford GT ended in September 2006, without reaching the planned target of 4,500 cars, though about a hundred were exported to Europe and two hundred went to Canada. It had been assembled at Mayflower Vehicle Systems in Ohio and finished at a Saleen facility in Michigan. The Ford GT was a mid engine two seat sports car, styled in the spirit of the GT40 racing car of the 1960s. Ford sold it in small numbers to collectors, and it was built by specialist firms under contract rather than at Ford's own assembly plants.
