The Ford GT arrived for the 2005 model year in conjunction with Ford's 2003 centenary, a mid engine two seater styled like the GT40. The first private sale was completed on 4 August 2004, when a former Microsoft executive took delivery of a Midnight Blue 2005 GT, and demand outran supply at first. Ford sold it in small numbers to collectors, and it was built by specialist firms under contract rather than at Ford's own assembly plants.
