The Taurus X was discontinued for the 2009 model year, and the Flex, introduced in 2009 as the replacement for the Freestar and the Mercury Monterey, unofficially took its place. The final vehicle was built on 27 February 2009 at Chicago Assembly. It shared its platform with the Five Hundred and the Mercury Montego, and no Lincoln Mercury version was ever built. The Freestyle was a seven seat crossover built on the D3 platform, a revised version of the Volvo P2 platform, at Chicago Assembly.
