Most examples of the Freda of 1996 were automatics, with a few manual versions, in a minivan that Mazda made as the Bongo Friendee and Ford sold under its own name in Japan. Many Bongo Friendee and Freda vans were later converted to camper vans, often imported to Britain. The Freda was a Ford badged copy of the Mazda Bongo Friendee eight seat minivan sold in Japan. Ford sold it through its partner dealers in Japan, and many were later converted into camper vans.
