The Freda was introduced in 1995 by Ford to its Japanese partner home market as a badge engineered version of the eight seat Mazda Bongo Friendee minivan. It was a Mazda built van sold with Ford badges in Japan, the first of several such twins sold through Ford's Japanese dealers. Ford sold it through its partner dealers in Japan, and many were later converted into camper vans. The Freda was a Ford badged copy of the Mazda Bongo Friendee eight seat minivan sold in Japan.
