The first Focus, code named C170, replaced the Escort in Europe and South Africa and the Laser in Asia and Australia. Its multi link rear suspension and sharp handling made it a favorite of critics, and it was named European Car of the Year for 1999. Ford of North America sold it from the 2000 model year and went on selling that car to 2007, while production in Argentina continued until 2008. The range included a performance ST170 and the Focus RS. Each model year has its own page.
