The Focus reached North American showrooms for the 2000 model year, and special versions that year included the Sony Limited Edition, the Street Edition and Kona editions. It became one of the ten best selling cars in America shortly after its introduction. In Europe the sixth and last Escort was still being built at Halewood until the end of 2000, which gave buyers a cheaper alternative to the new car.
