For 2012 an automatic parking system was added as an option for upper trim models of the Flex. The Flex remained the size and shape that Ford had shown in 2005 as the Fairlane concept, a three row crossover on the D4 chassis architecture, with the Duratec V6 as standard and the twin turbo EcoBoost V6 on all wheel drive models, built in Ontario alongside the Lincoln MKT. The trims continued to be the SE, SEL and Limited, in six or seven passenger configurations.
