In 1999 the Fiesta received a facelift to give it a New Edge look, with a face inspired by the Focus and new bumpers and wheels, and it is also called the Mark V in Britain. The facelift brought a 1.6 liter 16 valve Zetec engine for the new Zetec S model, side airbags, and the return of leather trim. The Lynx 1.8 TDDi diesel engine was introduced after launch. The facelift is the reason the fourth generation is sometimes numbered as the Mark V.
