The Mark IV Fiesta went on sale in South Africa in 1997, a market the car had never been sold in before, with a single 1.3 liter Endura E engine; it subsequently won the South African Car of the Year award. The German built Ford Puma, launched the same year, was based on the Mark IV and shared its underpinnings with it. The Mark IV was never sold in North America. The 1.3 liter engine would be replaced with a 1.4 liter in South Africa in 1999.
