The millionth Fiesta was produced in 1979, three years after the car's launch. Cologne, which had been building Fiestas for Europe, joined Saarlouis in building the U.S. cars from 1979. At the 1979 auto show season Ford and its Ghia design operation in Turin showed the Fiesta Tuareg, an off road concept car described as being for practical recreational use. The car's coil spring suspension, with a Panhard rod at the rear, was unchanged, and final assembly of the European cars took place at both Valencia and Dagenham.
