Right hand drive Fiestas, for the British market, only began to appear in January 1977, to the frustration of British dealers who had watched the car sell in France and Germany since September 1976. Its coil spring suspension, with MacPherson struts at the front and a beam axle with trailing links and a Panhard rod at the rear, differed from the torsion bars used by several rivals. The car was only the second hatchback supermini made in the United Kingdom.
