The Festiva was introduced in Japan in February 1986 as a three door hatchback with 1.1 and 1.3 litre engines. Mazda designed and built it at the request of Ford, which sold it through the Autorama dealer network. It had front wheel drive, rack and pinion steering and struts at the front. The Festiva was a small Mazda designed hatchback that Ford sold in several markets, some of them under other names. Kia in South Korea built most of the cars sold under the Festiva and Aspire names, and sold the same design as the Pride and the Avella.
