Ford revealed the 2009 F-150 design at the 2008 Detroit show. It was developed under chief engineer Matt O'Leary from November 2003, under the code name P-415. The truck had a larger and more flexible interior, an updated three bar grille, more trim levels, and a chassis with lighter weight high strength steel for better fuel economy, payload and towing capacity. V8 engines were standard in all models with no six cylinder available, and the Lincoln Mark LT was repackaged as the F-150 Platinum.
