For 1993 the Custom model was dropped, as the XL became the new base model. In 1993 Ford's Special Vehicle Team introduced the SVT Lightning, a performance F-150 slotted between the Chevrolet 454 SS and the GMC Syclone, with five spoke aluminum wheels and power windows and locks as standard. The F-150 4x4 continued with the Dana 44 Twin Traction Beam front axle and the Ford 8.8 inch rear axle. The Lightning had a three year run, to 1995.
