A new XLT Premium trim with leather seats was added to the Sport Trac for 2003, above the XLS with cloth seats and styled steel wheels and the XLT with alloy wheels. The XLT Premium had a power driver's seat, rear audio controls with headphone jacks, automatic headlamps and fog lamps. All production came from the Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky, where it took the place of the Ranger. The Sport Trac was a mid size crew cab pickup that Ford built on a lengthened Explorer chassis, the first mid size pickup Ford produced.
