The refreshed 2016 Explorer had a redesigned front fascia, hood and lower bumper, standard LED low beam headlights, restyled LED taillamps and dual exhaust outlets. Its four cylinder was replaced by a 2.3 liter EcoBoost taken from the 2015 Mustang. A new Platinum trim topped the range, slotting above the Sport and Limited. The car was shown at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show before its model year began.
