The Explorer was revised in April 2026, in keeping with developments on the related Volkswagen Group MEB vehicles, with a newer motor and a 62 kilowatt hour lithium iron phosphate battery in place of the 55 kilowatt hour battery for the Standard Range models, raising power from 168 to 187 horsepower. The Explorer EV is an all electric small SUV that Ford builds in Cologne on a Volkswagen platform for European buyers. It shares its name and design with the larger American Explorer, and uses a Volkswagen supplied powertrain.
