1983 was a busy year for the Mark III. A five door estate joined the three door, the Orion saloon was launched as a more upmarket model on the same mechanics, a Karmann built convertible appeared, and an economical diesel engine developed at Dagenham arrived in August. In September revised suspension mounts and the Sierra's steering rack answered the criticism of the ride. Brazilian production of the Escort began in July 1983 with local engines.
