1982 Ford Escort (Europe)

Automobiles

From mid 1982 a five speed manual gearbox became available across the range, standard on the 1.6 liter versions and optional on most 1.3 liter cars. In October 1982 fuel injection arrived to create the XR3i, a hot hatch to answer Volkswagen's Golf GTI. The short lived 1.1 liter version of the CVH engine, offered in certain markets, was withdrawn that year. Options now included a tilt and slide sunroof, central locking and electric windows.
