1980 Ford Escort (Europe)

Automobiles

The Escort Mark III was launched in September 1980 under the codename Erika. Ford had started on its engine, the CVH overhead cam unit, even before the Mark II appeared, and signed off the final exterior and interior design in late 1977. It was a front wheel drive hatchback with the Aeroback bootlid stump and the straked rear lamps typical of Ford's design then, and it replaced a car whose British production had ended in August 1980. The trims at launch were Popular, L, GL, Ghia and XR3.
