The last fifth generation Bronco rolled off the Wayne, Michigan assembly line on 12 June 1996. According to Ford the discontinuation was unrelated to any stigma from the O. J. Simpson police chase, as sales had been in decline before it. For 1996 the two V8 powertrains became OBD-II compliant. The Ford Expedition, derived from the tenth generation F-150 as a five door SUV, replaced the Bronco for 1997.
