The Mazda Eunos 500 of 1997 was in its sixth year, no longer under the Eunos brand since 1996. It remained a compact executive car on the Mazda CA platform, sold in Japan and Australia, and was the twin of the European Xedos 6, which sold with different engines. The 2 liter V6 produced 144 horsepower and was praised for its smooth, free revving nature. In total 72,101 Xedos 6 and Eunos 500 automobiles were produced. The Xedos 6 was not sold in North America, with the larger Xedos 9 and Millenia model offered there instead.
