The Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution is an electric racing car project managed by Mitsubishi Motors, named for its Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle technology. It began before 2012 with a car for the 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, built to promote the i-MiEV and to test electric technology at an event where thin air at 14,000 feet handicaps combustion engines. The 2012 car used three i-MiEV motors tuned to 11,000 rpm for 322 bhp, with a 35 kWh battery and a weight of 1,400 kg. The 2013 MiEV Evolution II added independent torque to each wheel, 536 bhp and a 50 kWh battery, and the 2014 MiEV Evolution III reached 604 bhp. In 2014 Greg Tracy placed second and Hiroshi Masuoka third overall, taking first and second in the Electric Modified class and beating the class record by 38 seconds.
