The Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV is a prototype plug-in hybrid crossover utility vehicle first shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in September 2009. A 1.6 litre gasoline engine of 85 kW serves as both powerplant and generator for two 30 kW electric motors, one on each axle, and Mitsubishi claims up to 50 kilometres per litre under optimal conditions. Its styling was said to hint at the third-generation Outlander and to show technologies that could reach production, and it was also shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2009 and the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. At the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show Mitsubishi unveiled the Concept PX-MiEV II, with a higher roofline, more practical mirrors, more conventional wheels, lights and bumpers, a larger 2.0 litre MIVEC engine of 70 kW and a pair of 60 kW electric motors front and rear.
