The Medallion went on sale on March 1, 1987 as a 1988 model under the Renault name, just eight days before Chrysler agreed to buy Renault's shares in American Motors, and it kept the Renault badge through the end of the 1988 model year even though Chrysler formed its Jeep Eagle division that autumn. It was sold as a base DL and an uplevel LX sedan and as a DL wagon during the long 1988 model year, with George C. Scott as the Renault spokesman in its television commercials.
