For 1999 next generation driver and front passenger airbags were added, as well as a new exterior color, Shark Blue. The V6 engine and automatic transmission became standard on all models in mid year, as well as several options. An anti lock braking system was used in all ES models until 1999. The Avenger was built with the Chrysler Sebring coupe by Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing America in Normal, Illinois.
