The Mitsubishi Galant Coupe FTO, known as the Galant FTO, was a rear-wheel-drive compact coupe built by Mitsubishi Motors from November 1971 to March 1975. The initials were meant to stand for Fresco Turismo Omologato, a piece of Japanese-flavoured Italian. It sat on a first-generation Galant chassis shortened by 12 centimetres for agility, with codes A61, A62 and A63. It began with a 1,378 cc Neptune engine of 86 or 95 PS and from February 1973 used 1,597 cc Saturn engines of 100 or 110 PS, with a 1,439 cc version at 92 PS; a facelift followed in October 1973 and the range was cut to four versions. The 1600 GSR had a standard limited-slip differential and, before October 1974, black wheelarch extensions for a wider track. It replaced the Colt 11-F Super Sports and gave way to the more staid Lancer Celeste in 1975; the FTO name returned in 1994 on a front-wheel-drive coupe.
