The C215 is the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class, a two-door, four-passenger coupe that Mercedes manufactured and marketed from 1998 to 2006 as its flagship. It was based on the W220 S-Class on a wheelbase 203 millimetres shorter, with a unibody of steel floor pan and rails, a bonded aluminium roof and rear wings, magnesium door frames and composite plastic for the boot and front wings. Sales in Germany began in August 1999 with the CL 500 V8. It was pillarless with no B pillar, and it was the second car after the S-Class with the Distronic radar cruise control and the first with both low and high beam xenon lamps. Active Body Control suspension was standard.
