Mazda Étude

Automobiles

The Mazda Étude is a three-door hatchback coupe version of the fifth-generation Familia that Mazda marketed only in Japan, from 1987 to 1989. It shared the BF platform of the 323 and Familia but was a little longer and had a roofline 45 mm lower, and it was sold as a personal coupe with very full standard equipment and a styling feature Mazda called Terraceback. It went on sale in January 1987 with a 1.6-litre twin-cam engine in Li, Si and Gi trims, and a 1.5-litre Sa version followed in July 1988. Sales fell well short of the target of 2,000 a month, and just under 10,000 were built before production ended when the Familia was redesigned in 1989. The Familia Astina and the Autozam AZ-3 and Eunos Presso coupes were its de facto successors.
