The Jaguar XK140 was a sports car built by Jaguar from 1954 to 1957 as the successor to the XK120, introduced in late 1954 and sold as a 1955 model. Changes from the XK120 included more interior space, with the engine, bulkhead and dashboard moved forward to give three inches more legroom, improved brakes, rack and pinion steering, greater suspension travel and telescopic dampers in place of lever arm units. It used the 3.4-litre XK twin-cam straight-six with the Special Equipment modifications, rated at 190 bhp gross, with a 210 bhp option using the C-Type cylinder head. It was sold as an open two-seater, a drophead coupe and a fixed head coupe, and in 1956 it became the first Jaguar sports car offered with automatic transmission.
