The Ford Falcon Cobra was a limited-edition version of the Ford Falcon XC Hardtop, released by Ford Australia in 1978. It grew out of 13 special order XC Falcon GS Hardtops built in December 1977 in Ford's parts and accessories workshop at Campbellfield to meet Australian Group C touring car racing rules, and from the 30 Option 97 cars that followed. When production of the XC Hardtop ended in March 1978, more than 400 unsold body shells were left, and Ford finished them in Bold Blue and Sno White with Olympic Blue stripes as 400 numbered Cobras. The first 200 received the 5.8 litre 351 Cleveland V8 and the other 200 the 4.9 litre 302 Cleveland, with automatic or manual transmission, and the cars are now sought by collectors across Australia.
