Audi R8

Automobiles

The Audi R8 is a mid-engine, two-seat sports car that uses Audi's quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, introduced in 2006 and built until the first quarter of 2024. It was designed, developed and made by Audi Sport GmbH, formerly quattro GmbH, at the Neckarsulm aluminium site, on an Audi Space Frame aluminium monocoque, and in 2006 it became the first production car with full-LED headlamps. The first generation, Type 42, grew out of the Audi Le Mans quattro concept shown in 2003 and was launched at the Paris show on 30 September 2006 with a 4.2 litre V8 and a 5.2 litre V10; the Spyder convertible followed in 2008. The second generation, Type 4S, was shown at Geneva in 2015, shares the Modular Sports System platform with the Lamborghini Huracan and dropped both the manual gearbox and the V8. The name is shared with Audi's Le Mans winning R8 prototype.
