The Anadol A1 was the first model of the Anadol marque and the second Turkish-built car after the short-lived Devrim of 1961. It grew from a prototype that the British maker Reliant developed on request, code named FW5, was styled by Tom Karen of Ogle Design, and entered production at Otosan's Istanbul plant in December 1966. The five-seat fibreglass body sat on an H-frame chassis with independent front suspension and disc brakes at the front. It began as a coupe, gained a saloon and an estate in late 1973, and used Ford Cortina and then Kent engines of 1200 and 1300 cc. The A1 was also the first Turkish rally car, and 19,724 were built before production ended in 1975.
