Ford Mustang II (concept car)

Automobiles

The Ford Mustang II is a small, front-engined V8, open two-plus-two concept car that the Ford Motor Company built in 1963. Although it shares a name with the first-generation production Mustang, the four-seat Mustang II closely resembled the final production car that would appear in 1964 and was intended mainly for the auto show circuit. After debuting at the 1963 Watkins Glen Grand Prix it had a short life as a show car before becoming a test mule. It followed the mid-engined Mustang I, which had limited appeal to the general public in reactions from potential customers and focus groups, and used a conventional front-engine layout based on the first-generation Falcon platform; nearly the only design element kept from the Mustang I was the fake louvres that recreated its radiator scoops. The sole example still exists, albeit in storage at the Detroit Historical Museum.
