The Ford MA Concept was a 2002 minimalist design exercise drawn by Jose Paris and championed by Ford's vice president of design J Mays. It was shown as an art object in museums as well as a traditional concept car at auto shows, and it received an IDSA Silver Industrial Design Excellence Award in 2003. The MA had the shape of a low slung two seat roadster with no top and was powered by an electric motor, though the design could also take a small internal combustion engine. Few parts were painted and it used none of the usual hydraulic fluids or industrial adhesives, which made it 96 percent recyclable. About 500 pieces of bamboo, aluminum and carbon fibre were held together with 364 titanium bolts and no welds, so it could be assembled and disassembled with little equipment, and its total weight was said to be 900 pounds, about 410 kilograms.
