The Dodge Slingshot, also written Dodge Sling Shot, was a concept car created by Dodge and introduced at the 2004 New York International Auto Show. It was built as a car that could possibly be aimed at a younger generation, and its design drew on the muscle car era of the 1960s and 1970s that runs through the Chrysler Group's past. The car was based on the smart Roadster Coupe, which was in production from 2003 to 2007, and it had a canvas roof panel. A rear-mounted three-cylinder gasoline engine gave a total of 100 horsepower and could take the car from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about ten seconds through a five-speed manual transmission, with a combined fuel economy of 45 miles per US gallon.
