The Citroen C3 Pluriel is a convertible version of the first-generation C3 supermini, sold from July 2003 until it was withdrawn in July 2010. Its name comes from the French word for plural, because it offered five open-top configurations: a hatchback with an insulated top, a full-length landaulet, a fixed profile convertible with the roof folded into a well in the boot floor, a full convertible with the roof side rails removed, and a roadster pick-up with a drop-down tailgate. Italdesign developed it as a turnkey project and it was assembled only in Spain. Buyers could choose a 1.4 or 1.6 litre petrol engine or a 1.4 litre diesel, and the 1.6 petrol came with an automated manual gearbox as standard. The roof tended to let in water, and it was criticised for its roof design on a Top Gear special; in October 2013 Top Gear Magazine placed it on its list of the 13 worst cars of the last 20 years.
