BYD S8

Automobiles

The BYD S8 is a two-door hardtop convertible sports car built by the Chinese carmaker BYD Auto. It was first shown as a prototype at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2006 under the name F8, and the production car followed in 2009. It is front-wheel drive and uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, and its folding steel roof and styling drew comparisons with the Renault Megane CC at the rear and the Mercedes-Benz CLK at the front. The S8 was sold mainly in China and was a commercial failure: 96 cars were sold in 2009 and only seven in 2010, about 103 in all, before production ended. It is related to the BYD F3 and is one of the rarest cars the company has made.
