The 2006 model year was the last of the GMT800 generation Suburban, which had been introduced in late December 1999 for 2000. Production of the redesigned GMT900 Suburban and Yukon XL began at Janesville Assembly and Silao Assembly in January 2006 for Suburban and April 2006 for Yukon XL, with the new vehicles arriving at dealerships in April 2006. The next generation was unveiled in January 2006 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
