The Monte Carlo returned for a shortened 1988 model year, largely carryover from 1987, and the SS now offered only a lay down style spoiler. The Aerocoupe did not return, because Chevrolet intended to enter the Lumina coupe in NASCAR racing for 1989. The final G platform Monte Carlo, a silver SS, was produced at Arlington Assembly on December 12, 1987, and production in the shortened year was 30,174 units.
