For 1998 the Z34 version of the Monte Carlo received redesigned alloy wheels, with the previous style remaining optional on the LS. The LS was powered by a 160 horsepower 3.1 liter V6, and the Z34 had used a 215 horsepower 3.4 liter V6 but received a 200 horsepower 3.8 liter V6 for 1998, increasing torque. All three V6 engines were paired with a four speed automatic transmission, and the Z34 looked like the LS but had red colored badging, a lower front air dam and blacked out trim.
