From 2004 to 2005 the Malibu was styled with a front fascia design that had a wide chrome bar running the width of the bumper, with the grille formed by a notch in both the hood and the bumper. A similar chrome bar was featured on the decklid of both the four door sedan and the five door liftback, the Malibu Maxx. The 2005 car was the last before the flagship trims and the revision of 2006. The Epsilon platform it used was introduced by the 2002 Opel Vectra C.
