For 1985 General Motors shifted El Camino production to Mexico, and the new fuel injected 4.3 liter V6 became the base engine through 1987. The 1985 car had the same crosshatch grille with quad rectangular headlights as the cars of 1982 to 1987, and its GMC twin, the Caballero, was produced through the 1987 model year. It was in 1985 that production moved from the United States to Mexico, where the El Camino and the Caballero were built through 1987.
