The C6 Corvette arrived for 2005 with new bodywork and exposed headlamps, the first for the Corvette since the 1962 model. The wheelbase was longer by 1.2 inches though the car was 5.1 inches shorter than the C5, and the passenger space was larger. The Z06, which was built as a homologation special, followed in the third quarter of 2005. The coupe kept a removable roof panel, either solid in body color or transparent black, and the 6.0 liter V8 engine was larger than the C5's.
