The 1957 Corvette looked the same as the year before but had more under the skin: the V8 grew to 283 cubic inches, fuel injection became a costly option and a four speed manual gearbox could be ordered from April 9, 1957. Zora Arkus-Duntov pushed the car toward racing, and a rear bushing failure at Sebring that year led to the AMA racing ban in April 1957 that ended the Corvette SS project. The ready to race options included an engine fresh air and tachometer package and heavy duty racing suspension.
